Parkour Weightloss
Wake up, school, eat, video games, eat, video games, sleep, repeat. That was my life. I was weighing in at about 240lbs. I did basically nothing for entire days, I didnt play sports, I had all my friends inviting me to come play basketball or baseball or hockey, and I would be like no thanks Im gonna go play some counter-strike its a lot more fun. Truth be told I just never had the energy back then to play sports; I would lose interest and get tired so Id stay inside and play my computer games. That is basically how I was all throughout high school, even my closer friends still refer to me as fat ass, because thats what I was, the fat kid who never wants to do anything. People would actually make fun of me pretty often; I was kind of a joke with my friends.
One day sometime in about April 2007, I found this video about David Belle and it was him describing this thing called parkour. It was really interesting to watch, and I found myself really interested in it, so I started spending some of my time reading up about it, learning about vaults, and rolls and talking to my friends about it., and they all made jokes telling me theres no way I could EVER do something like that. So slowly I decided that I was going to try and do this crazy running and jumping thing, when I first started it was nearly impossible, Id go out and after 5 minutes I was dying. Id get tired so easily and Id feel like I just couldnt do it.
So with the interest I had in parkour, I decided that I needed to make some changes with my life. So I stopped eating so much, I stopped playing so many video games, and I kept going out and doing as much as I could for parkour. In the beginning of April, I was eating constantly, eating chips and pizza pockets and McDonalds. by the end of May, when I really started pushing myself to train hard, I was eating only the normal 3 meals a day, usually consisting of fruit and vegetables I grew very fond of salads, when two months prior to that I wouldnt have even touched these foods, I only ate unhealthy junk foods. I was working hard, just because I wanted to do parkour, it became one of the few things I cared about weight, doing, instead of always wanting to be inside, and just playing video games, my life became about trying to move and learn new ways to move. It was like learning to walk again but in new ways. It provided me with new thoughts, it made me much more aware to my surroundings, it just kind of provided me with something to strive for, something I wanted to become.
These were my pants bought in September of the previous year that actually fit me and were a little tight before I started parkour, so this was after just 5 months of training that I managed to lose this.
Parkour completely changed my life, I went from this lazy, not gonna do anything kid, to someone who actually enjoys being outdoors and training and working hard. I have been training parkour for about, 5 months now, and I have made such a difference with my life. Parkour has slowly taken over my life in a completely good way, so far I believe Ive lost somewhere around 40lbs, its all from parkour, its the only thing that Ive ever wanted to do, its so freeing and doing it just gives you a sense of freedom, makes you feel like you can go anywhere, do anything, and move in any direction you want. Its an amazing feeling to see the difference Ive made in my life, and to know that parkour is 100% the cause of it. Parkour is such an amazing thing, a sport, an art, and a philosophy, its all that and more, and its a huge part of me.
